Behind the Edits

Hi, I'm Nicole Heavilin, the editor behind Heavilin Creative. My love for storytelling began early, fueled by a lifelong passion for reading, grammar, and the small details that can pull readers out of an otherwise immersive story.

 

My journey into editing began when my husband started writing his middle grade novels. As we navigated the publishing process together, I became deeply involved in the editing side of his work and gained firsthand experience with the challenges authors face when bringing their stories from draft to finished book. Through that process, I discovered how much I enjoyed helping writers refine their words while preserving the heart of their stories.

 

Wanting to strengthen my skills with formal training, I completed Edit Republic's High-Level Proofreading and Copyediting Pro course. This allowed me to broaden my understanding of professional editing techniques, publishing standards, and the collaborative relationship between authors and editors.

 

I also hold a Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling, which has strengthened my ability to understand communication, perspective, and the importance of authentic human experiences in writing. While my primary focus is providing professional editing services, this background gives me an additional lens when working with content involving relationships, emotions, and human behavior.
